The visitors could also attend a unique for Velohora event- the fair Velo Yard Sale, where original souvenirs and crafts were displayed for sale. Besides that, there were organized different interesting contests for cycling fans. For the first time, anyone interested could compete in the race on a giant tricycle , and children could participate in the obstacle race “Merry Starts”. Thousands of residents and visitors of the capital left their cars and took the bicycles. The route was about 22 km long covering 4 districts of the capital. It was accomplished in half an hour on average, the movement of cars being stopped in places that cyclists were supposed to pass. Despite the gloomy weather, about 8 thousand people participated in the race.
The company Simpals participated in VeloHora 2012 in a double role. The first one was information support offered by the company covering the event on its portals. In addition to information support, Simpals was directly involved in the cycling festival. 12 employees of the company took part in the race as a manifesto supporting healthy lifestyle. In such a way, Simpals wanted to contribute to the promotion of sports among the population.
The company organized such an event a week earlier, on September 16. On the main street of the capital they constructed an improvised playground where Simpals employees tried their strength against Chisinau bloggers in a football match.
“VeloHora” is a large-scale sporting event organized on the eve of the International Car Free Day which is celebrated on the 22nd of September. The main purpose of this event is to promote cycling culture in Moldova.
