On November 11-13 in Moldova, took place an important event in the IT-sphere — Startup Weekend Moldova. One of the co-organizer of this international competition was and our startup incubator Simpals Garage.
On Friday, November 11, the first day of Startup Weekend, initiator of the Simpals Garage, also a jury member, Dmitri Voloshin, hold an introductory lecture to the participants, in which he told «The Story of a fool» — the story of his own experience, trial and error, which may help young professionals to avoid similar mistakes in their projects. By the way, the jury entered another mentor of the Simpals Garage — Vitalie Esanu.
On this day, the participants pitched their ideas and from 30 projects presented, 10 were selected. The authors of these startups had to find a team and start the development on the project.
The second day was a dynamic and productive one. Young startuppers, full of enthusiasm and desire to prove the jury that their project deserves the title of the best startup, worked intensively. Each team was able to obtain authoritative advice from mentors who helped with the development of the projects. There were 11 international and local experts, two of them being the representatives of the Simpals Garage — Roman Stirbu and Andrew Shuleansky.
The third day was decisive. The participants presented their work. A jury of 5 members chosen three winners.
1st place — Project Football Star — «linkedin» for novice football players.
2nd place — FeedMeHoney — a service that gives you the recipe of what you can cook from the products you have in your fridge.
3rd place — Online Styler — a project relevant to the field of online sales. The website advices what clothes you should wear, matches the clothes to your parameters and tells your where you can buy it. An important aspect that influenced the selection of the jury, was that the team managed to find partners — representatives of several major brands of clothes that have expressed interest in this idea.
Andrew Tolochka, 2nd place, the youngest member at Starup Weekend Moldova (16 years old) — «I’m glad I was able to participate in this project and am very happy that our team managed to take the prize. FeedMeHoney idea came to me accidentally — Opening the fridge, I found there only an egg and two tomatoes and I was wondering what I can cook from these products. „Googling“, I did not find any results. And I’ve got an idea — to create a website, where people who can’t cook, will find the recipe. »
At Startup Weekend Moldova, Simpals Garage representatives had an excellent opportunity to interact with participants and select interesting and promising startups. The luck to be invited to Simpals Garage, had the authors have of 3 projects: Feed Me Honey, Ask An Expert and TickSell.
Also, Simpals Garage offered to all the teams that participated in the weekend, advertising for their projects on Simpals’ portals in an amount of $ 1,000. They also were given cool notebooks!;)
